Mock Trial
I joined the Mock Trial team my junior year. Going in, I didn't realize how much dedication it would require, from the long nights working on closing statements to running bake sales to pay for our team membership. It's definitely a team effort that can be tense and difficult at times. Despite this, Mock Trial is still my favorite thing that I've found at New Tech. It's hard work, but has definitely been rewarding.
Volunteering
Throughout my time at New Tech, I have had the opportunity of participating in numerous volunteering projects around the Bay Area. I've helped out at animal shelters, cleaned up debris around the river and vine trail, planted oak trees, and helped out at one of our local food banks. I also started a small community garden in one of our unused beds at New Tech with my club (NT Garden Club) in my sophomore year. These are just a few images that I particularly liked.
Travel
While technically not a project per se, I really enjoy traveling and have had the fortune of seeing some amazing places. High School is all about new experiences (right?!) and traveling is about one of the coolest experiences you can have. Seeing how other people live and interpret life is very interesting. Plus, it makes you really appreciate what you have at home. It's the thing of like "yeah, Sweden is cool, but you can't order a taco there". It's only so long you can eat pickled herring before beginning to miss Gordo's.
